Scaling And Root Planing
Scaling and root plan or SRP is the best way to treat infected gums before they become serious. The dentist will apply local anesthesia to the gums and roots of the teeth so that the patient doesn’t feel pain. Also, the dentist will clean the area between the gums & the roots.
An ultrasonic device is sometimes used by doctors for minor injuries.
The dentist fills in the gaps between the gums and teeth with an anti-infective fiber. This accelerates recovery and prevents infection. The threads can be removed usually seven days following treatment.
Post-operative care
Anesthesia can cause loss of sensation in the gums for a short time. The process of planing and scratching produces very little pain.
SRP Objective
This is when tartar (a significant amount of mineral deposit) begins to build up on the teeth, or the gums start pulling away from the teeth.
Efficiency of SRP
The patient should take care of his gums and teeth. If this is done properly, the infection won’t spread further. The gums will eventually heal and will be firm and pink again.
Risk Factors
SRP comes with many risks. The risk of introducing harmful bacteria to the blood and infecting the gum tissue is possible. If one has any existing medical conditions, he should take antibiotics prior to and after surgery. These impairments should be considered if you are considering taking medicine.
- Have particular issues with the heart that may increase your risk of Endocarditis.
- You have a weak immune system.
- In the recent past, underwent major surgery and received artificial body parts (e.g. prosthetic hip or synthetic hearts valve).
Suggestions
- SRP is a simple way to treat gum diseases.
- Make sure to floss your teeth and clean them twice daily once the surgery is over. This will prevent the infection from returning.
